Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026. This is a plain English guide to how we handle your data.
At Trulo, our entire business model is based on keeping you safe in real life. That means we have to take your digital safety and privacy equally seriously. We do not sell your data to third-party data brokers, and we minimize the data we collect to only what is necessary to run the service.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account, build your profile, and use the app:
- Account Data: Phone number and/or email address to create and sign in to your account.
- Profile Data: Photos, prompts, and preferences you add to your profile.
- Identity Verification Data: To ensure you are a real person and your age matches your profile, we require ID verification. This is processed securely through an accredited third-party verification partner. We do not store images of your physical government ID on our servers; we only store the verification result (pass/fail) and your confirmed age.
- Location Data: We collect your device location to provide our core feature: matching you with people based on travel time. You can control location permissions in your device settings.
- Audit Trail Data: If you use our personal Audit Trail feature, we encrypt and store the details of your date (who, where, when) in our secure ledger. This is kept strictly for your personal safety and is not used for advertising or shared.
- Usage Data: We automatically collect generic usage and crash logs to help us improve the app and handle Apple TestFlight feedback properly.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information exclusively to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Trulo dating app.
- Verify your identity and enforce our safety policies.
- Calculate travel times and suggest matches and date locations.
- Provide customer support.
- Communicate with you regarding your account.
3. How Information is Shared
We only share your information in the following circumstances:
- With other users: The information you put on your public profile will be visible to other users on the app.
- With service providers: We share data with trusted third parties who perform services on our behalf (e.g., our ID verification partner, cloud hosting, and Apple regarding analytics on TestFlight). All third-party partners are bound by strict data protection agreements that match or exceed this policy.
- For legal reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, such as to comply with a valid subpoena or if we believe it is necessary to protect the safety of a user or third party.
4. Your Rights and Choices
You have full control over your data. At any time, you can:
- Access your data: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Delete your account: You can delete your account directly inside the app settings. Doing so strips your profile from the platform immediately and schedules your data for permanent deletion from our servers, in accordance with our data retention policy.
- Revoke permissions: You can revoke location or camera permissions at any time via your device settings, though this will impact the functionality of the app.
5. Data Retention
We keep your personal information only as long as you have an active account. If you delete your account, or if your account is banned for violating our Terms of Service, we retain certain identifier information (such as a hashed version of your phone number or verification record) for a limited time strictly to prevent you from creating a new fraudulent account.
